Your garden is not just a patch of green. It’s your urban Eden. Your space to think, dream, ponder, read, relax, eat, drink, rejuvenate, and so on and so forth. And above all, it’s the best remedy for a creative block.
One of the greatest pleasures in life is perhaps sitting atop a stool surrounded by greens, basking in the glory of the grand foliage at dusk and sipping hot coffee and chocolate. An occasional barbeque roast is welcome too!
So for all of you out there with a neglected backyard or terrace, here are some easy ways to bring life to it:
1. Miniature Tray Gardens
The idea is to use plants with similar water, nutrient, and sunlight requirements together. Various kinds of succulents work best in this case.
2. Hanging Baskets
If you’re low on ground space, go for these hanging baskets overflowing with seasonal flowers or herbs. They can literally brighten up any space.
3. Feeders And Lamps
Bird feeders and earthen lamps are another great way to make the atmosphere seem more lively and cheerful!
4. Rocks And Pebbles
Bored of those boring, dull, old earthen pots? Use big rocks (khangar) as planters instead! These work brilliantly if you’re looking to add some quirk to your garden while maintaining a natural look. Just fill in all crevices and nooks of the rock with soil, and place your plants in it accordingly. It takes 2-3 days for the plants to take shape after they’ve been planted. Gardening tip: Bonsais look best here!
5. Old Belongings
Re-doing your bathroom? Don’t throw out your bathtub! Station it in a corner and use it for growing water lilies and hyacinths!
