5 Outfits Inspired by the Popular Contemporary Romantic Fiction

Slipping eyes though words and turning pages while popping images in our head though sparkle dust. We make the images move and people blink, count the buttons on the sleeve and colour eyes the right shade of brown with a gleam. Books bring out the best of our imagination. We paint a story better than it could be materialised. We expand our imagination and horizons to create and live a story altogether different. Some romantic fiction stories lie close to our hearts all our lives, some have oblivious bits that like raindrops bless us in our droughty times. And we long to be close to the stories we live and the characters that we live with. We want to retain the speck of the stories in parts inside us and outside.

So TYS brings you 5 outfits inspired by popular fiction:

1. Sam

from The Perks Of Being A Wallflower

Remember Sam’s classy way of dressing? She would carry anything with her charming face and humble ways that comforted Charlie. The book and the movie makes it a full package and since the movie is directed by the man himself, Stephen Chbosky, his materialisation won’t disappoint you and instead offer a closure to the story. So talking about Sam’s classy way of dressing, she is someone who made the casual look classy. Going to the parties, she would don little black dresses and so pouring around the classiest vibes. A classy, simple neck piece would star every outfit of her, a simple off-shoulder LBD (Or remember the iconic flared dress from the “infinite” moment?) with less translucent or opaque tights would celebrate the best of her, with the evergreen Black Stilettos.

If you haven’t read it yet, this might prove to be a catalyst:
“It’s just that I don’t want to be somebody’s crush. If somebody likes me, I want them to like the real me, not what they think I am. And I don’t want them to carry it around inside. I want them to show me, so I can feel it too.”
Stephen Chbosky, the Perks of Being a Wallflower

2. Hazel Grace

from The Fault in Our Stars

The book gave us heavy heads from crying or trying to stop ourselves from crying. Hazel Grace, a simple girl who gave up on happiness before Gus came in and made her feel the air around. Simple, A simple boyfriend fit blue denims, a simple tank top with flat boots and that would make the graceful Hazel. And accessorise it with a TFIOS inspired bracelet or a neckpiece. 🙂

3. Louisa Clarke
from Me Before you

She is all over the place. Matching blues with bright green hues. She is life. Always moving, no matter what. Happy, colour-filled, pushing limits to land at places you never thought one could. A colour rush in the dress and the footwear with another colour burst of a totally different colour in her bag because life is too short to match things and even shorter to abide by the “socially” accepted rights and wrongs. Bleh! Who cares? Mix and wear what makes you happy. Your favourite top with your favourite jacket and the sun hat on a rainy day. Anything!
“I will never, ever regret the things I’ve done. Because most days, all you have are places in your memory that you can go to.”

4. Jamie Sullivan

from A Walk to Remember

She didn’t care what other thought about her. Old school, the word that perfectly describes her way of dressing. A plain shirt, with blue overalls (or dungarees) or a pullover over her shirt and a long skirt and plain flats. She would repeat her clothes endlessly and she wouldn’t stress on how she looked on the outside. Her Bible would be her favourite accessory. Simple and casual, defined Jamie Sullivan. Remember that body tattoo he gave her on her shoulders in the movie? 🙂

“It wasn’t that long, and it certainly wasn’t the kind of kiss you see in movies these days, but it was wonderful in its own way, and all I can remember about the moment is that when our lips touched, I knew the memory would last forever.”
Nicholas Sparks, A Walk to Remember
