Unprivileged children. Traffic. Psychologist.
Separately, those three words make a lot of sense. But together? Maybe not so much. Recently, these three came together in Pune to orchestrate an equally intriguing event. When unprivileged children are put in the hands of a psychologist, creative ideas of spreading awareness come out, in the middle of traffic.
Who is this Psychologist we are talking about so much?
At the age of 19 when other girls were associating themselves with glamour, luxury, clothing and flowing in the river of being a style statement, a tributary came out of that huge river, and Aafreen Ali was seen associating herself with the slum children to give them the power of education. She started with just 2 kids but is now empowering almost 50 students.
It has been 3 years since she started teaching them English, other important concepts and moulding their personality by giving exposure to different aspects of life apart from academics, such as personal hygiene.
Under the wings of Global Shapers Pune, Aafreen Ali, founder of Faza Foundation Pune, spearheaded a traffic awareness campaign with her team of little pupils. They prepared posters with slogans themselves and also gave out small pieces of paper saying, “Thank you for wearing helmet. We are proud of you!” This not only gave a huge confidence boost to the children who participated but also put a smile and a feeling of pride on the faces of the people who received those notes. This event was held in Pune on the Kharadi area chowk.
The idea behind handing out Thank You notes was to encourage the riders to wear helmets and also appreciate the ones who already wore them.
